Items Needed For Creation Cupcakes:
Muffin pan
Cupcake liners
Your favorite cake mix (boxed or from scratch)
Your favorite icing (store bought or from scratch)
Oreos
Blue food coloring or blue icing in a tube
Flower picks (attach flower sticker or child's flower artwork to toothpick)
Vanilla wafers
Star sprinkles
Goldfish crackers
Pull & Peel Twizzlers (cut to make bird wings)
Animal cookies
Smiley face picks (attach sticker or child's artwork to toothpick)
Tips:
*This would make a great rainy day activity where you can take the time to read scripture & discuss days 1 through 7 of God’s creation with your children as you decorate all of these cupcakes. If you have older children, involve them in the scripture reading.
*If you would like to substitute ingredients, don’t be afraid to get creative.
*Modify this project to make it appropriate for your child according to their age & interest level.
*For an added educational experience, you may want to include them in shopping for the items you will need.
*You may also want to include them in the clean up process as you go along…now would be a good time to discuss food safety & cleanliness in the kitchen.
*Many children will enjoy helping you mix, bake & ice the cupcakes prior to the decoration stage.
*Once you have decorated the cupcakes to represent Day 1 through Day 6 of creation, allow them to design their own creations with the rest of the decorations & cupcakes.
*When you get to Day 7 of creation, talk about how God rested. Then relax with some milk (or beverage of your choice) & enjoy a cupcake!
*Creation Cupcakes are even more fun if you can share them with neighbors, friends & family…feel free to send them to this blog so they can learn to make some of their own!!
Day 1 Creation Cupcake – God Created Light and Dark

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:3-5
Pull apart an Oreo cookie. Use the half with the white icing to represent the light & the other half to represent dark. Then arrange on top of cupcake icing. Let your child tell you things that they can do in the daytime, and things that they can do in the nighttime.
Day 2 Creation Cupcake – God Created Sky

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:6-8
Either ice this cupcake with blue icing (made with white icing & food coloring) or use blue icing in a tube to draw clouds on top of an already iced cupcake. Talk about the different shapes of clouds your child has seen in the sky.
Day 3 Creation Cupcake – God Created Land and Plants

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:9-13
Crush Oreos in a plastic bag…they will look like dirt. Sprinkle the crushed Oreos over the cupcake & then add your flower pick. The Oreos will represent land while the flower will represent plants. Ask your child to describe their favorite plants.
Day 4 Creation Cupcake – God Created Sun, Moon, and Stars

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:14-19
Use a vanilla wafer to represent the sun, pull apart an Oreo & slice in half…use half of the white side to represent the moon, & use star sprinkles to represent the stars. Then arrange on top of cupcake icing. Discuss how the sun, moon, and stars are alike yet different & what makes them special from one another.
Day 5 Creation Cupcake – God Created Ocean Creatures and Birds

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:20-23
Use goldfish crackers to represent ocean creatures. Also, cut a pull & peel Twizzler into pieces that can be arranged into the shape of bird wings. Then arrange on top of cupcake icing. Invite your child to tell you about their favorite ocean creatures and birds.
Day 6 Creation Cupcake – God Created Animals and Man

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1:24-27
Use animal cookies to represent the animals & a smiley face pick to represent man. Then arrange on top of cupcake icing. Tell your children how God created man to rule over all of the animals & ask them about their favorite animals.
Day 7 Enjoy A Creation Cupcake!!! - God Rested
Scripture Reference: Genesis 2:1-3
Speak to your children about how you make Sunday special in your family. Talk about how God rested after all of his work & different ways you relax as a family & enjoy creation.

This is soooo awesome! What a great idea! Thanks for sharing with us...we'll have to tuck this one away until the nephews get a little older. Or maybe Lee and I can have a fun cupcake day.
That is so neat... I can't wait to make these with Chloe :)
These are such a great idea - really cute and a good teaching tool. I want to eat the Sun, Moon and Stars - they look yummy!
